The 9th issue of Plascon SPACES hit the shelves on 10 December 2012, but this time as an award-winner having recently won a Magazine Publishers Association of South Africa's 2012 PICA Award for Visual Production of the Year for the innovative fig-inspired piece in SPACES 7, A Sensual Season by Tina-Marie Malherbe and art director Christopher Evans.
Just in time for Summer, the year-end issue of Plascon SPACES – a magazine dedicated to showcasing and translating the latest décor, design and colour trends using colour and paint - focuses on making the great outdoors even greater. Along with the selection of gorgeous interiors you’ve come to expect, the issue also celebrates the exterior space by featuring how to take paint and décor principles onto patios, verandas, poolsides and outdoor walls.
To ensure that the magazine continues to provide its readers with the best décor and DIY information, quickly and whenever they need it, Plascon SPACES has made a few changes to its editorial layout.
“For the first time, the magazine has been divided into two parts. The upfront Inspire section is full of colour trends and bright ideas, while the Create section is where readers will find practical case studies and hands-on advice on how to replicate the very latest looks,” says Plascon SPACES manager Anne Roselt.
Super-stylist Tina-Marie Malherbe uses a gorgeous summer palette to play with on-trend ombre, dip-dyeing and paint-dipping techniques in Décor Inspiration, and if you’re looking to get more ‘hands on’, Paint Effects shows you step-by-step projects that use paint to help revitalise old objects and spaces.
Treat yourself this summer by revamping your patio with One Room Four Looks and choose what best suits you, whether it is budget-friendly, eco-elegant, local and lovely, or ultra-glam, while exploring some Real space case studies with photographer Micky Hoyle’s African-inspired hotel, an abstract artist’s colour-blocked home and a stylish surfer’s wooden beach house.
Says Roselt, “The last issue of Plascon SPACES for 2012 brings you loads of colour inspiration from the bush to the coast, the latest colour trends, tips and advice for all your outdoor projects, aimed at helping you create your dream home - inside and out.”
Pick up your copy of Plascon SPACES 9 at Woolworths, C.N.A., Spar, Exclusive Books, Builders Warehouse and other general retailers and welcome a more revitalising summer – it’ll give you every excuse to stay outdoors.

This is a very special issue of Plascon SPACES magazine. Why? Because it’s the launch issue for the 2013 Colour Forecast – the culmination of a year of sourcing and scouting to find out which colours are making themselves seen and heard.
There has been no shortage of inspiration, thanks to international fashion weeks, the Olympics, pop culture, TV dramas like Downton Abbey (my personal favourite) and movies like The Great Gatsby. Due for release on Christmas Day, this much-anticipated film has already sparked a penchant for pastels, Art Deco designs and anything that sparkles. For more information on trends, please check out our new trends blog, www.plascontrends.co.za.
Colour trends are also influenced by the mood of society – we are drawn to colours that reflect how we feel. When stressed, we gravitate towards soft greens and blues, and when we need a little motivation, we turn to red. RightR32;now, society is craving stability. A haven of balance and harmony. Pick up any newspaper and you’ll soon find out why: uprisings, natural disasters, yet another rhino poached, the list goes on.
That’s why the theme for the Plascon 2013 Colour Forecast is balance. It consists of four palettes designed to help you bring harmony into your home, be it through calm colours to counter the chaos, or through energetic shades that can blast away blandness and give low spirits a lift. You’ll find all the themes and colours in the brochure with this issue, as well as loads of ideas on how to personalise the palettes in the pages of the magazine.
We hope that these colours will help you create a haven of harmony that’s perfect for you. Enjoy!
